The Federal Government on Tuesday revealed that they have given certificates of registration to two more academic unions of universities to rival ASUU.

This was confirmed by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige on Tuesday 4th October as he claimed that the created unions will work side by side with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The newly unions are Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) and the Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA).

Though Ngige affirmed that the union will coexist with ASUU, many has suggested that it’s just a ploy to overtake ASUU that has been in a standoff with the federal government which have led to a near-9-month strike by the educational body

Such move by the federal government has been questioned with many Nigerians who’s children are still affected by the ongoing strike stating that it will only lead to more confusion in the country.
