Newly published that by the federal government has revealed that 31% of Nigerians are illiterate down from 38% in 2015.
The newly published data is a welcome development as it shows that nearly 70% of the population are literate.
The newly released data was confirmed by Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education, who gave the information on Wednesday while addressing the Education Writers’ Association of Nigeria (EWAN) 2022 Summit in Lagos.
The data shows that despite the economic difficulties and political turmoil that has swept the nation, comprised with ASUU‘s incessant strike, Nigeria as a nation is still growing in strength.
Though many have questions the newly released data, but it’s still a welcome development and one which calls for celebration as the 69% literate benchmark pits Nigeria not far from most of the developed countries.
