The Nigeria Custom Service (NCS) recently announced that they will start seizing foreign used imported clothes and shoes due to health risks associated with it.

The announcement was by the Acting Comptroller of the Federal Operations Unit, Zone A of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Hussein Ejibunu, while addressing newsmen.

The ban is a welcome development, considering the health hazards associated with the importation of such commodities to Nigerians.

As quoted by Ejibunu, such materials are dangerous to health as it can lead to an outbreak of different diseases.

Many Nigerians buying such clothes don’t know the health status of those who previous wore those clothes before it was shipped to Nigeria.

With the recent outbreak of hazardous diseases like monkey pox and so many of them, moves to ban such commodities by the Nigerian Custom Agency should be applauded.
